Thanksgiving!

We are approaching Thanksgiving and here at Lonestar we have a lot that we are grateful for. This includes all of our families, staff and community members who have been with us through the year especially with the challenges 2020 has brought us. We are continuing all of our safety and cleaning processes outlined by the CDC for our COVID-19 precautions. We still have child size masks available in the lobby for clients. BCBAs are still offering virtual and limited in person parent training.

Upcoming dates to keep in mind: Our office will be closed the 26th and 27th of November in observance of Thanksgiving.

Client Praises!!

  • Three of our clients did an amazing job playing trains with one another, they were talking to each other, sharing, and taking turns all on their own!
  • One client did an amazing job playing with a peer in the sandbox outside. They were working to fill a bucket of sand together during recess.
  • Another client has been doing an amazing job of increasing their language skills. It’s exciting to hear them speak!

Client praises, we have so many this week!

-Our newest client to the clinic is getting a big “way to go” for saying hi unprompted for the first time! He also is doing a great job learning to follow directions.

-Another client independently asked “Can I push you on swing please?” we are very excited and proud of him.

-Three cheers for potty training! A client this week used the toilet for the first time!!! Her vocabulary and echoics have increased, and she even began to spontaneously request for preferred items!

-New virtual ABA went well for a client this week.

-One of our clients has independently approaching peers to engage with them in play. She is doing so well!

September update from LoneStar

October 2nd, 2020

As we venture into Fall we want to update families on a few things happening at the clinic and in our community.

First, thank you to all of our families for persevering with us through this pandemic. Covid-19 has changed how we live our lives but one thing that has not changed is our dedication to helping our clients and their families. We have been able to stay open throughout this period. We are continuing to implement extra cleaning measures and social distancing practices recommended by the CDC. We appreciate families following our safety protocols during drop off and pick up.

We are excited about the progress our clients are making!

  • One client did amazing during a gross motor break, while the younger clients were at recess, who he is learning to interact with in positive ways! He also asked to push a younger client on the swing while playing outside!
  • Another client recently started a bike riding program.  It began with tolerating a helmet and learning to rotate his legs on an under desk pedal bike. He is now initiating riding the bike, steering well, stopping by back pedaling, and progressing with figuring out how to move the bike when it is stuck! So awesome 😊
  • Our final client this week has been doing an amazing job over all and has mastered quite a few programs recently. He is doing an amazing job initiating play with peers at school and his in- appropriate behaviors at school have almost completely disappeared. We are very excited about this progress!

On another note, we wanted to let families know that we are in talks with a few different organizations to possibly expand our services and are looking forward to some new opportunities in the future. We will announce more as new information becomes available.

We are excited to announce that we have an ad placed in the Dallas Cowboys Bluebook.  It was also in the book of the Rangers this year.  These teams are sharing this with their season ticket holders and others, even without their usual audiences.

2020 Parent Meetings, and Extended Hours

December 19th, 2019

Parents of children with autism are invited to attend meeting and sharing times at our ABA clinic in Grand Prairie. The sessions will be from 4pm to 5pm on the second and fourth Mondays. This means January 13th and January 27th. Sometimes the chance to talk with other parents who have the same challenges of raising a child with autism is helpful. We encourage the families of children attending Lonestar Autism Solutions and others who want to come to attend. People can attend when they can, and the group will decide the topic of interest to them at a session. Clinicians can be available, but will not present programs unless requested to do so.

I hope you will take advantage of this to meet and speak with other parents.

In January, a few spots are opening up in our ABA clinic. We have a couple of children graduating into full time school services, and we have a family moving out of the area. Please contact us at 817-265-2344 about services.

I would like to talk to families who need ABA services but need extended hours in order to be able to attend. Perhaps the family work times requires earlier drop off or later pick up times. Let me know and we will see if we can help this to happen.

Program Manager

Trick or Treat on 10/26/19

October 21st, 2019

We have our clinic Halloween Trick or Treat this Saturday 10/26/19. This is indoor (with a few outdoor options) between 11am and 2pm. We are open to all families in the larger community (not just those attending our ABA clinic) who have a child with autism. Parents: there will be NO SUGAR in the edibles given out during this event. Come in costume, bring the parent and siblings and your trick or treat bags. Enjoy activities with other families.

Please RSVP to Kathleen Lively, 817-265-2344, to let us know how many kids and adults will attend. Please RSVP by 10/23/19 (Wednesday.)

September 3rd, 2019

It was a busy summer for everyone, and a shift among children coming for Applied Behavior Analysis now includes some children going to school part time. We have openings at our new clinic.

We are inviting all to our celebration and Grand Opening this weekend at our new clinic building in Grand Prairie. The address is 2801 Osler Rd., Bldg. A, Suite 300, Grand Prairie, TX 75051. (Osler Dr. runs from Abram St just east of Hwy 360, to Great Southwest Parkway.)

The program provides one-on-one staff working with the children. Come meet Dr. Wanda Figueroa our CEO, and 2 of our Board members from Owensboro, KY, our corporate headquarters. We are operated by this 501-c-3 non-profit corporation. This is the only Texas location of our company.

Here are some things that will be going on: Ribbon Cutting with the Arlington Chamber of Commerce at 11 AM Friday. Music performance from music therapist 11AM Saturday. We will discuss the program including our affiliation with the Cleveland Clinic Children’s Center for Autism. LoneStar Solutions Will Be Moving/Updates

January 11th, 2019

The Christmas and New Year’s rush is over, and school has started again. We had a busy time with many children coming to extra ABA hours over the school break. We also had a wonderful day of picture with Santa, here at the office and sent to families for use in their holiday cards and so forth.

We want all to know that we will be moving our offices in early February, to a new center being built out for our use. The space is a little larger, on ground floor with both indoor and outdoor play space, and many ABA therapy rooms for 1:1 work. We are excited to be going to this spot. The location is off Abram and Hwy 360, in a small medical-type office complex. We will give further details soon.

We have a second BCBA working daily now, who is Farheen Siddiqui, along with Jessica Smith, our full time BCBA. We are able to accept referrals on more children, and have space for 1 or 2 full time now, with other space coming once we move.

School Has Started Equals More Spaces

August 24th, 2018

It is late August and lots of children are attending school again. We have some new space for additional children, since some of the older children who were here in summer are back at school part time. Please get in touch with Kathleen Lively, 817-522-5052, to discuss your interest in ABA services.

After a busy summer, the turn-around time for intakes and service starting is now just a few days.

Our staff and families will be a walk team at the Autism Speaks Walk on 9/16/18 in Ft. Worth. We will be glad to hear from any others who would like to come on the walk that day and/or contribute to the fund raising goal for Autism Speaks.

We would like to brag on our staff:

  • All have a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in a human service field.
  • We have some bi-lingual staff, in Spanish or Arabic. One also has Urdu, Punjabi, and Hindi.
  • Some staff are in graduate school part-time, pursuing farther training in this field.
  • Staff turn over is minimal.  Some staff cycle through as summer or part time staff.  New staff hired are mainly here due to expansion.
  • BCBA is on-site every day and meets with each family monthly.  Access to BCBA is easy to set up on other days.

July News for LoneStar Solutions

June 28th, 2018

Our next parent meeting is Wednesday July 18th (4:45pm-7:00pm) at LoneStar Solutions. The program will be “OT: Fine Motor Fun”, presented by Anna Kimberly, OT. Anna is the Occupational Therapist who comes to LoneStar Solutions to deliver OT services to clients during their ABA day. She works for At Home Healthcare. The meetings are free and open to others interested in autism, even if they do not have children attending this clinic. If others want to find out about services from At Home Pediatrics, they can be contacted at 817-810-0411. Anna is open to seeing other children at LoneStar Solutions as well. Please RSVP to Kathleen Lively at 817-265-2344 if you would like to attend the meeting.

We have openings for ABA services at LoneStar Solutions starting in mid-August. Please contact Kathleen Lively at 817-265-2344.

We have the assistance this summer of one social work intern from University of Texas at Arlington. April Townsend is working with director Kathleen Lively at LoneStar Solutions site. One project is a satisfaction survey. LoneStar Solutions parents are encouraged to complete the online survey that was emailed to them.

Kathleen Lively was able to attend the Future Horizons conference in Addison on June 15, 2018. It was a great program with Dr.Temple Grandin and Anita Lesko both speaking, who are adults with autism. Both are professionals who tell their stories. The other speaker was Paula Aquilla, OT, another well-known professional, from Canada. Anyone dealing with autism in the family should look into reading books written by Temple Grandin and/or Anita Lesko. Attend a program if they come again to this area. Watch the HBO movie “Temple Grandin”, made in 2010, if you have not seen it. Listen to the commentary on the DVD as well, to hear much more from Temple on the scenes in the movie, which she says were accurate on her life. She is reportedly the first person to widely talk about the her experience growing up with autism, and how people with autism often see the world. Future Horizons is a publisher of books and magazines on autism. They are located here in Arlington. Check out their website. LoneStar Solutions has a library of books donated by Future Horizons, which can be borrowed.

Have a great 4th of July Holiday!
